I have been learning a lot with the build of my van……… it has been a lot of fun, a challenge and I have to say again FUN!!! I love learning new things and building the van has really challenged me to learn. Looking at the van today I am 100% done with the functional part of the build. I could leave tomorrow and drive anyplace in the world and the van would do what I want it to.
So doing the initial build was easy, but I am still doing the little finishing that needs to be done. As mentioned before I hate to preplan the build to far in advance as things seem to change as the build progresses. So I had a pile of small finishing projects to work on that I managed to get done over the past week.
Once the wiring was done to get a basic van electrical system running from the van battery to the new house battery it was time to hook up the accessories to run the van’s electrical appliances. I was doing this work to power the fridge and the Espar heater now and for some lights and a fan later on.
It is electrical !!!!! After putting it off I finally got around to working on the vans house electrical system. I love electrical but at the same time it scares me. The biggest issue is connecting the house battery to the van, but after reading and laying out diagrams I went for it.
In the world of recreational vehicles (RV’s) there are many types and styles. From your small tow behind trailer to your amazing class A’s. The VW is not a luxury machine in any way. It is practical, comfortable and some would even say fun but luxury is not on the VW list. Neither is reliability or speed on the benefit list in anyway.
